This flower was quite a surprise in the seedling field as it was a cross of a lavender and a red flower. The intense yellow along with green throat and green edge were nothing like either parent. However, when a beautiful flower shows up unexpectedly, we have learned to just appreciate it for what it is.
The bright lemon yellow color and green edge make this flower unique. The edges are tightly ruffled but it opens beautifully even in our cool climate. In the landscape, Pinewood Irish Spring has color that pops and draws attention similar to our popular Big Yellow Doofus but with more green in the eye and edge. We also had several rebloom scapes this year that extended the bright show in the garden.
Pinewood Irish Spring is fertile both ways although we have done limited hybridizing with it. With its genetics, it should produce a variety of colors.
