Servant to All (Korth-P., – Korth-L.; 2021)

33”, 6.5”, M, Dor., 6 branches, 37 buds, Tetraploid,

Seedling x All Things to All Men

We used Karol Emmerich’s wonderful cultivar All Things to All Men on a variety of daylilies.  When used on one of our dormant seedlings, we got a flower that was similar in appearance to All Things to All Men but was different in several ways.  First, Servant to All is registered at 6.5” – somewhat larger than All Things to All Men.  Second, Servant to All is dormant and hardy here in our climate.  Third, it is taller (33” vs 28”) and finally it has slightly higher bud count.

Servant to All is a little darker than All Things to All Men and the eyezone has a little more blue in it.  Like All Things to All Men, Servant to All is proving to be an outstanding breeder.  We have several seedlings that look like future introductions with Servant to All as a parent.  It is fertile both ways.

The name came from the same section of scripture as All Things to All Men.  In 1 Corinthians 9:19, the apostle Paul states that although he is free, he makes himself a “servant to all” to spread the gospel.

Northern gardeners will enjoy Servant to All for its excellent plant habit and beautiful flowers.  Hybridizers will enjoy Servant to All for its potential to produce beautiful flowers in purple, lavender, and blue eyes that are dormant in plant habit.  Some example seedlings are shown below.
