Mighty to Save is one of the most complete daylilies in our garden. As a garden plant, Mighty to Save has northern hardiness, good vigor, and spectacular scapes featuring 33 buds. The flowers are stunning starting with a vibrant pink color. Add in the green throat, a greenish/gold ruffled edge and good opening in a variety of weather and that is a complete flower.
We are not sure what we expected when we crossed our near white Telperion with a dark burgundy seedling (an un-named sibling to this year’s King of Creation.) Somehow the combination resulted in a rich pink daylily with a big green throat and a touch of green in the petal edge.
While we have limited use in breeding with Mighty to Save, we had two fabulous seedlings bloom in 2024 with Mighty to Save as the pollen parent. With the unique genetics, seedlings in many colors and shapes are possible.
