Lavender with lavender blue eyezone and green throat on petals and sepals
Poor Jonah – he just wanted to take a little vacation to Spain. But he was running away from Yahweh and put the entire ship’s crew in danger as Yahweh was determined to have Jonah do his work. To save themselves, the crew threw Jonah overboard (Jonah 1:15). Jonah Overboard is a fitting name for this Sign of Jonah offspring that is taller and larger than the parent.
At 38” tall and 7” flower size, Jonah Overboard will draw your attention in the garden. The flowers have a pleasing blend of colors starting with the green throat that transitions to yellow/orange, then to a large lavender/blue eyezone. The eyezone is ended with a purple band, then the remaining petal is reddish lavender. The edge is not huge but has three colors of purple, lavender, and cream. The combination of colors has a softness as the colors blend rather than contrast giving the overall impression of harmony.
In addition to being an imposing flower in the garden, the scapes are sturdy with good bud count for such a large flower. It grows well here and is very hardy. It is pod and pollen fertile and we are evaluating a lovely ruffled seedling displaying the soft colors of Jonah Overboard. If you look at the genetics of Jonah Overboard, you will see it traces back to some of our earliest efforts using classic daylilies such as Tet. Lavender Blue Baby, Destined to See and Blue Hippo (through our Secret Ambition). Go overboard for this daylily.
