Breeding with daylilies can be fascinating and surprising. The unique feature of Redemption Day is the edge and throat that have distinct orange tones to them. Neither parent displays that trait, so the orange color is a surprise to us.
Redemption Day has been a consistently fine garden plant with flowers that open well and have clean colors. The combination of burgundy and orange goes well together, and Redemption Day is the first of several promising seedlings in that color range.
We have not used Redemption Day as much as we should have but our records indicate it is pod fertile. With two of our finest introductions as parents, Redemption Day should be an excellent hybridizing plant.
