Description
Pinewood Sledgehammer (Korth-P., – Korth-L.; 2023)
31”, 7.5”, EM, Dor., 5 branches, 24 buds, Tetraploid, rebloom
Velvet Hammer x Tetraploid Rose F. Kennedy
This flower has been the star of the early season. The huge 7.5” flowers open well, are typically perfect, and show off the large green throat. Even with a large ruffled edge, the flowers do not hang up but tend to roll back making the large green throat grab your attention. The scapes are tall and well budded for such large flowers. It has also rebloomed for us making it great for northern gardens to extend the bloom season. First starts blooming here the first week of July but with rebloom, we are seeing wonderful flowers in mid-August.
Velvet Hammer has been an outstanding daylily for us consistently putting out beautiful flowers and when crossed with the famous Tet. Rose F. Kennedy, produced a wonderful daylily (Pinewood Sledgehammer) that performs great in a northern garden. Pod and pollen fertile, it has produced some great looking large seedlings and has some unique genetics.
