Description
Emerald Meteor (Korth-P., – Korth-L.; 2025)
34”, 6.5”, EM, Dor., 5 branches, 26 buds, Diploid,
((Emerald Starburst x Arno’s Bow Tie) x Rose F. Kennedy)) x (Cosmic Kaleidoscope x Emerald Starburst) x (seedling x Cosmic Bow Tie)
Bicolor purple petals with white midribs, lighter sepals, dark purple band around a large green throat.
Emerald Meteor is another daylily with white midribs with the result being a star like appearance and the name included a meteor. There is a lot of green in this flower with a nice contrast between the dark purple band and the bright green throat. Unique among this year’s diploid introductions is the ruffled edge.
In the garden, Emerald Meteor is a standout with tall scapes and excellent bud count. It has rebloomed in our garden so we would expect it to rebloom more frequently in locations farther south than us. The dormant plants are hardy and the flowers are good openers.
The genetics that produced Emerald Meteor include plants from George Doorakian, Jack Carpenter, and our Arno’s Bow Tie. This mix of hardy diploids make Emerald Meteor and excellent hybridizing plant.
